History

Beaverton Sunrise Rotary was chartered on June 11, 1982 as a new club sponsored by the Beaverton Rotary Club.  Twenty-six charter members attended the charter presentation at Mirika's Restaurant in Beaverton.  At the time it was chartered, the club's name was Progress Rotary Club since the club was to meet at The Stockpot Restaurant at Progress Downs Golf Course (now Redtail). 




First president of the club was Mark E. Gerton (shown at left with wife Leila receiving official honors from a Rotary District 5100 representative at the charter banquet).  Vice president was Joel B. Shaw.  Charles E. Lawrence was secretary, G. Ray Rankin was treasurer and Patrick E. Murphy was sergeant-at-arms.

A twenty-seventh member, Brian F. O'Day, joined one week later at the first meeting.
