Dental Clinic Compressor

CRATING WORK--Rotarians Saturday built a crate to house a portable compressor which will run a dental clinic in Central America.  The compressor was donated by Rogers Machinery through the efforts of Jeff Yarnell, far right, who is a member of the Tigard Rotary Club.  The project was spearheaded by Beaverton Sunrise Rotary members, from left, Patty Frahler, Chris Odell and Sam Scott.  Shipping for the compressor is being provided by Federal Express.

A compressor designed to run a portable dental clinic in remote areas of Central America will soon be headed for the jungle thanks to the efforts of local Rotarians headed by the Beaverton Sunrise Rotary's international committee.

Members of the committe gathered April 2, 2005 at Rogers Machinery in Tigard to help crate up the large compressor for the journey.  The compressor was donated for the project by Rogers Machinery through the efforts of Rogers employee and Tigard Rotary Club member Jeff Yarnell.  The donation was made after Beaverton Sunrise Rotarian Patty Frahler solicited help from other District 5100 Rotary Clubs and Yarnell answered the request with an offer to donate the compressor.

Sunrise Rotarians are looking at ways to use the unused space in the crate to send needed items along with the compressor.  A list of needed items will be posted as soon as it is available.

After Yarnell came up with the compressor, Patty Frahler convinced Federal Express to donate the shipping of the equipment to a Rotary Club in Virginia.  That club will handle shipping the compressor to its ultimate location in Central America.

Beaverton Sunrise Rotary previously donated and shipped an Adec portable dental clinic to the Honduran rainforest.  That clinic is being used by teams of volunteer dentists who fly to the region for dental work periods of two to four weeks.  The portable clinic is small enough to fit into a small boat for transportation on the region's rivers which are the primary means of movement in the jungle areas of Central America.  There are virtually no roads in the area and few airstrips.

The compressor will be moved to a Third World location through the auspices of Med-Link, a  project of the Churchland-Portsmouth, Virginia Rotary Club.
